A Foodie’s Paradise
The Monferrato region is a gastronomic delight, well known for its white truffles, wild boar, fresh pasta and Nutella as well as glorious wine (Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera and Moscato). Bra and Alba, the home of the Slow Food Movement are a short 30 minute drive away. Meanwhile the property is located in Mombercelli, one of the key centres for white truffles. During the autumn, our neighbour at the bottom of the hill is always keen to take visitors truffle hunting on his land, and sell you a few when you find them.
The immediate locality is also abundant with independent wine makers producing the now world famous Barbera and Moscato wines. Wine Tastings and Vineyard Tours are a wonderful way to discover the authenticity and passion of the winemakers. Particularly interesting are the magnificent cellars or ‘underground cathedrals’ in nearby Canelli, which have been designated a UNESCO world heritage site. If you are looking for English speaking cookery classes or winery tours, we recommend piedmont food and wine.
The locals are very serious about their food, and amazing restaurant’s abound, while prices remain satisfyingly restrained. Check out our favourite local restaurants there are lots to choose from …
