New roof on our shady Terrazza

In December 2013 we installed a new roof complete with terracotta pan tiles to create a more comprehensive shade for our terrazza where the long stone table, gas grill, hammocks and sun lounger sit. The new roof now provides protection from the rain, which the canvas shade sails that used to be hung from the beams, used to struggle to deal with. More reasons to sit and enjoy the wonderful views over a glass of local wine!

Stylishly Restored Farmhouse in Rolling Hills of Barbera Wine Country

Perched high on the hillside above Mombercelli, in the rolling hills of the Monferrato wine region of Piedmont, the Cascina Del Forno has been stylishly restored to the highest modern standards. With three bedrooms, sleeping 8 in total, the house is perfect for those who appreciate modern, sustainable design, and relaxing creature comforts. The terraced garden has a vegetable patch and herb garden that guests are welcome to enjoy. A 14′ trampoline, and spacious shady gazebo with gas barbecue grill, sun lounger and hammocks, make it idyllic for families or adults.  It is the perfect place to sit with a glass of local Barbera or sparkling Cortese or enjoy a lazy meal, with the panoramic views of the valleys, vineyards, wooded hillsides and Italian Alps beyond.

BARBERA COUNTRY

The Monferrato region is a foodie’s paradise, well known for its white truffles, wild boar, fresh pasta and Nutella as well as glorious wine (Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Nebiolo and Moscato). Bra and Alba, the home of the Slow Food Movement are a short 30 minute drive away. Meanwhile the property is located in Mombercelli, one of the key centres for white truffles.

Enjoy a glass of local Cortese wine on the terrace

Whether you just want to relax in our courtyard and terraced garden, go wine tasting in one of the hundreds of local independent wineries, visit one of the many wonderful local food markets or indulge in the ‘Cucina Piemontese’ via the many fantastic local restaurants that range from mouthwatering ‘casa linga’ to internationally renowned and Michelin starred, there are treats abound.

Indeed, the house is ideally located for day trips to the beach on the Ligurian coast, skiing or mountain trekking in the Maritime Alps, or shopping for designer clothes in Turin or Milan. Although a relaxing get-away, off the beaten tourist track, the property is in fact easy to get to, being equidistant from 3 international airports: Genoa, Turin and Milan, all around an hour’s drive away.
